'NEW YORK — With the runway arms race already gathering pace, what with carnival rides and catwalk-to-commerce instantaneity, leave it to Alexander Wang to detonate some megatons Saturday night with his collection for Spring 2017. Wang returned to Pier 94, his longtime runway haunt, after last season’s dalliance at Saint Bartholomew’s Church on Park Avenue. The 133 thousand square-foot (12356 square meters) facility could more than accommodate the many moving parts to this production. One such moving part included an operational Volvo tractor trailer, whose payload was a wall of a video screen, which served as the opening curtain to WANGFEST celebrating the designer’s collaboration with adidas Originals following the runway show. On the night 10 girls at Next including Impy, Odette Pavlova, Olivia Jansing, Marjan Jonkman, Miranda Nyström, Binx, Katlin Aas, Selena Forrest, Anna Lund, and Lia Pavlova all featured in what was arguably one of the strongest lineups in recent seasons. The collection had its eye on the beach and all its related sporting and cultural activities that stand to benefit from the sort of accessory worn by Selena and others that was a butane lighter on a nylon necklace. No more, where’s my lighter, bro, and especially not with WANGFEST going at full tilt satisfying insatiable cravings the likes of which a 7-Eleven and McDonald’s on wheels could only fulfill.
