'DIY: How to make a coat without a pattern. Part 1. Designing and cutting a coat.'

'Today we start talking about the outer clothes. To be more specific – about the coats.  I’ll tell you how to make a coat without a pattern. First I’ll show you the coat I’ve made of the Ferragamo style cashmere fabric. It’s a 2-layer cashmere which is pretty hard to find and to work with. The sides seams of the coat will be processed in such way that I can wear the coat wrong side up. I’ll cut such coat of the modeling fabric. I’ll also show you how to design a collar.  I’m sure you’ll manage to do it. If you buy such 2-layer cashmere fabric, don’t hesitate to make such coat. I could do it without the patterns at all, but I don’t want to waste time trying to remember my measurements, so I’ll use the back from my basic pattern. I’ll tell you what you should pay your attention to. I really want you to try to make such coats.  I’ll also tell you how to make a good pattern. I’ll make a coat about 2 cm narrower at the bottom. You’ll understand what to do when you practice. I need to straighten the edge of the fabric.  You should be very careful! Do not forget to make a notch on the waistline. Notice that I use just 1 piece of paper, but it provides me with the information about the waistline, centerback, centerfront, and so on. I’ll tell you how to find where to fold the lapel.  I’ll tack some details first and then cut the sleeves. Next time I’ll show you the stitching.
