There was a sense of disappointment in the air for JOHN GALLIANO\'s always much anticipated show for DIOR. The audience waited for nearly an hour in the corridors of the Jeu de Paume Museum for the spring and summer ready-to-wear show that could only be described as cowgirl chic. Taking his inspiration from down on the ranch, Galliano sent his models out in high heeled boots decorated with buckles and silvery spurs, and unevenly wrapped leather and denim short skirts or stretch pants. The models, done up with hairdos straight from a Wild West bar-saloon, were sent out in boots, very short shorts and bomber jackets. On the more delicate side, they were traditional Christian Dior scarves wrapped into asymmetrical skirts or halters with big chain shoulder straps. For evening wear, it was gold and violet silk prints, chartreuse-lavender combinations or light-blue wrapped dresses with jacquard flower patterns. Sadly Paris\'s fashion elite were unimpressed by their trip to the rodeo. Over at CHLOE however, fellow Brit STELLA MCCARTNEY had a better time with her trip to the Wild Wild West. Cheered on, as normal, by her dad PAUL MCCARTNEY, Stella produced a collection that could be delicately described as \'Rhinestone hooker\'. Stella teamed frayed hot pants with rhinestone tops and produced a whole line of jeans and white denim which looked like they had been sprayed on to the models\' bodies. This was a very sexy and edgy collection which won plaudits for its imaginative mixing of styles. There were simple fabrics for the evening wear and luxury for day with graduating striped tropical wool and, again, lots of denim. The luxury look was laced with gold and diamonds. Models donned ultra-feminine baggy bell-bottoms and razor cut trouser suits, along with white cotton denim and sexy transparent tops. Her golden luxury look dominated the designs, with diamonds hand-stitched onto clothes which were cut to show off every curve. The show, at the Museum of Petit Palais, had a celebrity heavy audience including American designer TOM FORD and TITANIC baddie BILLY ZANE. Stella revealed that the collection, dedicated to her late mother LINDA, was inspired by dad\'s old BEATLE tune SHE\'S A WOMAN. Sir Paul, who released his new album Run Devil Run this week, was at the front leading the applause. Another foreigner based in Paris, Australia\'s COLLETTE DINNINGAN, was also showing on Tuesday but displayed no cowboy leanings. Instead this was a collection heavy on inspiration from some of the high fashion points of the dying century - from bohemian between-the-wars Paris to Swinging Sixties\' London. This was a collection dominated by muted, soft colours with lots of pastels. The clothes hugged the body with dresses having the flow and allure of lingerie. Dinningan, now fully based in Paris, took part of her inspiration from artists like Matisse. Certainly the venue, the glamourous and historic Opera Comque, helped provide some of the extravagant atmosphere. ELLE MACPHERSON was among the audience.
