'(30 Sep 2019) STELLA MCCARTNEY SHOWS OFF HER MOST SUSTAINABLE COLLECTION YET Sustainability can be sexy. And beautiful. And fashionable. It\'s a message Stella McCartney has been trying to get across for more than a decade, and her SS2020 collection, shown Monday morning (30SEP19) at the Opera Garnier, was her most sustainable ever. All of the tailoring and knitwear was made from materials such as organic cotton, recycled polyester, sustainable viscose and traceable wool. New raffia bags were made by female artisans in Madagascar using local raffia from communities working to support conservation. Nearly all the cotton was organic, and all of the denim was organic or recycled. McCartney dedicated the collection to all the free-spirited, wild, risk-taking women of the world. Circular symbols – representing vitality and femininity – were key, from flowing silhouettes to petal-shaped edging to circular bags. The power suit was reimagined with pleated, slashed trouser skirts and Japanese recycled polyester for a subtle, modern shine. Embroidery brought artistry, notably in an intricate vintage dress in cotton lace. And florals came from actual photographs that McCartney took on her bike rides through the English countryside. Guests included Sir Paul McCartney, French rapper Orelsan, and Antoine Arnault of LVMH, the luxury group that just took a minority stake in McCartney\'s house. And the decor was another highlight: video images of animals having sex.
