'(14 Oct 1998) English/Nat Fashion designer Stella McCartney has dedicated her new collection of Spring clothes to her late mother, Linda, at the Paris fashion shows. A year ago Lady Linda, in her last public outing before losing her battle against cancer, was seen rapturously applauding her daughter\'s first collection for the fashion house Chloe. But Stella shone alone this year, and her fresh designs have been welcomed by the star-studded audience and critics alike. Names from the world of pop and fashion were in Paris on Wednesday to witness Stella McCartney\'s new Spring season. The event was an emotional journey for the McCartney family. A year ago, Stella McCartney had attended her daughter\'s first show. It proved to be her last public outing. But this was Stella\'s day. Sir Paul McCartney sat centre-stage. The audience were treated to a spring/summer collection that included many very low- cut clothes, some in bikini style and with an emphasis on the bodice look. Colours concentrated on soft pinks, lilacs, mint greens and lavender. There were dresses and belted crepe gowns touched with an occasional splash of vermilion or magenta. The show has been dubbed the \'frock exchange\' by the appreciative press because of the location of the show in the city\'s old stock exchange building. The nickname is apt as hem lengths rose and dropped as frequently as the stock markets. For Stella the show was a celebration of the erotic. SOUNDBITE: (English) \"The inspiration really was just summer, and the mating season, women feeling good and looking good, really confidence, femininity, fluidity. Hair was loose and unbrushed, giving the show a feel of a bygone hippy era. There was something for everyone. Seersucker trouser suits appeared alongside air-brushed stocking dresses. Patterns included sunsets and birds. But the wild was married with the traditional, and a series of elegant evening dresses were warmly received. After the show, Stella said her mother still inspires her. SOUNDBITE: (English) \"Every designer\'s mother is their inspiration and I\'m no different from that, and my mum inspires everyday of my life, so it comes out in my work as well. Her father Paul led the applause as the audience gave her a standing ovation. Last year her mother had jumped up and down with enthusiasm at the end of the show.
