Two weeks after the annual lingerie catwalk spectacular was officially canned, the former VS Angel spoke about the company’s decision during an appearance on the “Today” show on Wednesday. “I think it’s a reflection of the world we live in today,” Kloss, 27, explained. “And, you know, I think consumers demand that brands are inclusive and body-positive and sustainable. And I think brands have to evolve.” The “Project Runway” host walked her final Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in 2017, after making her debut on the brand’s storied runway in 2011. “I’m grateful for the opportunities it provided me but, you know, I was ready to move on,” she said. Kloss previously opened up about her choice to hang up her Angel wings during an interview for British Vogue’s August issue. “The reason I decided to stop working with Victoria’s Secret was I didn’t feel it was an image that was truly reflective of who I am and the kind of message I want to send to young women around the world about what it means to be beautiful,” the supermodel shared. “I think that was a pivotal moment in me stepping into my power as a feminist, being able to make my own choices and my own narrative, whether through the companies I choose to work with, or through the image I put out to the world.” The Victoria’s Secret’s Fashion Show’s cancellation follows several years of plummeting TV ratings, slow sales for the company and rampant criticism over the lingerie giant’s exclusively thin, cisgender models andy marketing.
