'James Tissot is one of attractive artists, I think. He was a French painter in the 19th century but he was not like typical artists at that time in Paris. First, he was born in a wealthy family and he was also successful later as an artist so that he could enjoy the fruits of material success in his entire life. One interesting thing here is that his parents were involved in fashion industry and he helped with their business, which might have influenced him to devote himself in the theme of fashionable ladies. Second, he loved the Great Britain and he recollected that it was the happiest moment of his life when he lived with Kathleen Newton there. Third, his parents were Catholic and raised him in that religious environment, and he was immersed in this topic, especially in his later life. Anyhow, he was so into the theme of fashionable women, which made him famous. His elaborate, sophisticated, and beautiful fashion paintings will amaze you. Now I am presenting this motif of his. He painted not only luxurious fashionable dresses (mostly, though) but also modest and different types of dresses. I hope you can enjoy 19th century fashion in James Tissot \'s paintings.
