'A look into our archives with this video of the Oscar de la Renta Spring 1994 runway show and an excerpt from its review in the New York Times. \"Oscar de la Renta brought a rare quality to the design of his Spring collection: moderation. He started his career as flamboyant as the next designer, with prints-too-bold and ruffles-too-many. Now, he is exercising restraint and bringing a glow to the eyes of retailers. Many of the prominent woman who wear his clothes braved the crowds yesterday to turn out for his show in a tent in Bryant Park. They were glad they did. The theme that wafts through the clothes is Morocco, but it is expressed in such a controlled way that it doesn\'t call attention to itself. Jackets in white, marigold or mocha are edged in matching braid and can have a scroll design in the same braid at the waist or shoulder. It\'s a bit of detail that makes the clothes look rich but not overpowering. The first word that women like Nancy Kissinger, Nan Kemper, Barbara Walters and Betsy Bloomingdale used to describe the collection was not \"comfortable,\" however. It was \"beautiful.\" Mrs. Kissinger particularly liked the pants, Mrs. Kemper \"the details that gave the clothes a couture quality.\" And they said they found the show in the tent, rather than a hotel ballroom, to be an \"adventure.\" ― Established in New York City in 1965, Oscar de la Renta is one of the world\'s leading luxury brands.
